Orion’s architecture enables easy integration with existing mission-critical systems. Orion stores its data in an open, Microsoft SQL Server database which can be easily accessed from, or incorporated within, external applications. Orion also includes an advanced alert engine which provides an easy-to-use, real-time method of sending data to upstream systems and event handlers.

Orion’s Web interface is built for easy customization and includes methods for integrating third party application data or for referencing Orion’s data from within other Websites via the fully programmable Web API.

Integration with SolarWinds Products

Engineers Toolset

The release of Engineer’s Toolset version 9 allows Orion users (version 8.5 or later) who have Engineer’s Toolset installed on their local computer to access the functionality of the toolset directly from the Web simply by using the “right click” mouse option. Users may access powerful applications such as Real-Time Interface Monitor and Cisco Configuration Viewer directly from the Orion Website.

Orion Modules

SolarWinds also offers several Orion modules that directly integrate with Orion version 8 including Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, Orion Wireless Network Monitor, Orion Application Monitor and Orion Hot Standby Engine.

LANsurveyor

SolarWinds LANsurveyor can quickly and easily discover your network topology and create a detailed network map. The map can be saved and exported to Microsoft Office Visio. Either directly from LANsurveyor or from Visio, the map can then be imported into Orion’s Map Maker with a single mouse click.

Third-Party Integrations

Operation Management Systems

Many businesses rely on operation management systems to reduce the complexity associated with managing today’s IT infrastructure environment and lowering the cost of operations. One such system is Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) which simplifies and automates the way businesses design, deploy and operate distributed systems by increasing operational efficiency and helping customers maximize their IT investments. MOM also provides IT professionals with easier setup and implementation through simple deployment wizards and automated tasks for targeting management packs across the system. This feature comes at no cost to SolarWinds customers holding a current software maintenance agreement.

Event Management Applications

In some situations, customers may have existing event management systems, such as Micromuse Netcool or HP Openview that are deeply ingrained into their company’s processes and business applications. Orion easily integrates with these systems through the use of its advanced alert engine and open database structure.

Trouble Ticketing Systems

If you have an existing trouble ticketing system, such as BMC Software’s Remedy Action Request System (ARS) or SalesForce.com integrating with Orion is quick and easy. Orion’s alert engine and Web interface provide several methods for integrating with these systems.
