Fault Management & Availability Tools
View the status of thousands of nodes and interfaces from a single web page. Select between up/down, bandwidth utilization, interface traffic, errors and discards, and signal-to-noise ratio (for broadband networks). Every element is “hot” allowing you to immediately see the alert and drill into the router, switch, or server in question.
Custom MIB Support
Customers can create a custom poller to monitor any SNMP-enabled device value that has a MIB, which amounts to virtually any statistic that a network device records. Examples of custom MIB monitoring include monitoring temperature on a switch, fan speed on a router, and battery status on a UPS.
CPU, Memory, and Disk Space Monitoring
Orion quickly identifies if a Cisco router has CPU or Memory issues. Orion will also monitor disk space on Windows 2000, XP, Sun and Novell servers. The Orion Network Performance lets you get in front of issues before they happen.
SNMP Compatibility
Orion allows more secure polling of SNMP values from any device that supports SNMP v3. Orion can also receive SNMP traps, which are specially-configured notifications sent by network devices when unusual events are detected on that node.
Syslog Viewer
The Orion Syslog Viewer allows the Network Performance Monitor to receive and process syslog messages from any type of device. Syslog messages are real-time messages that network devices generate to notify about a specific event within the device. Now you can receive, filter, view, alert and manage all syslog messages from a single console, or even remotely, from the Web interface.
Network Maps
Import any diagram from an existing network map, topology map, or even a map of the world or a city. The Map Maker allows you to import a map and make it “hot” by dragging nodes onto it. When the map is saved, it is immediately updated with the current status of the added nodes. Map Maker allows you to group your network into regions, districts, sub-networks, and unique locations.
Alerts & Events
Orion includes a comprehensive alerting engine and a scalable, robust event monitor. The alerting engine is capable of sending pager or e-mail alerts based upon hundreds of user configurable thresholds. The event monitor allows you to view events sorted by device name, type, and date period. Both the alerting engine and event monitor completely searchable from the web interface.
Customizable Web Views
User views can be customized with a unique filtered view and a unique toolbar. Select predefined views or create your own new views of your network. Pages can be customized with individual corporate styles.
Custom User Accounts
Define a general logon for each department or create unique accounts for each individual customer. One account could view all servers, another all routers, while a customer account could have access to view a single interface. Each account can have its own page layout, content, and customized toolbar. Orion is ideal for a consultant, ISP, or service provider with numerous customers.
Advanced Reporting Engine
Orion’s Report Writer utility allows you to develop quick, custom reports on the performance of your network. The Report Writer ships with several standard reports as well as a simple interface that allows you to create your own reports. Reports can be printed or viewed directly from the web.
Custom Property Editor
The Custom Property Editor allows you to add unique business and network information to the database to improve your ability to group and report on your network. It also allows you to display node or circuit specific information like the escalation procedures for an outage. Custom properties may be associated with either a node or an interface.
Account Limitation Builder
The Orion Account Limitation Builder application allows you to create and customize limitations so that a user views only the Nodes, Interfaces and/or Volumes that you authorize. Account limitations can be based on Custom Properties like Customer Account Number or region.
Custom HTML Resources
Orion provides the ability to detach a monitored view (i.e. Current Bandwidth) and link to an existing HTML web page. Add custom frames. For example, you could add your current support entry form or the customers payment history to any Orion web page.
Open Architecture
Orion uses an open SQL Server database, Windows-based polling engines and an interactive, customizable web interface for viewing the network status and statistics. Orion uses industry-standard MIBs and protocols to monitor the network and does not require the use of remote probes or agents. Orion’s open architecture also allows for easy integration with in-house and third-party applications, including SolarWinds Toolset, Microsoft Operations Manager, HP Openview, SalesForce.com and many other applications.
