Orion allows more secure polling of SNMP values from any device that supports SNMP v3. Orion can also receive SNMP traps, which are specially-configured notifications sent by network devices when unusual events are detected on that node.

The SolarWinds Trap Receiver is used to receive, log, and view SNMP traps. With this tool you can view traps sent by Network Performance Monitor alerts. Other SNMP tools available through Orion integration with Engineer’s Toolset include Enhanced Ping, PING, PING Sweep and Trace Route.
