MAC Address Discovery can correlate IP Addresses and Physical Addresses
Now you not longer have to type CONFIGIP on each device on your LAN to discover the MAC Addresses of your devices. The SolarWinds MAC Address Discovery will scan the subnet on which you are attached and construct a table of relating IP Address to MAC Address, DNS, Network Card Manufacturer and Manufacturer Address. The best method of discovering the MAC Addresses for other subnets is to place the SolarWinds tools on a laptop and take the laptop to the remote subnet to be scanned. For scanning multiple subnets, use the Network Sonar application.
What is a MAC Address
A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique number assigned to a Network Interface Card (NIC), commonly called an Ethernet card. This “address” is created by the NIC card manufacturer. A MAC address is a 12 digit number. The digits of a MAC address are usually separated by colons or dashes. An example of a typical MAC addresses might look like this: 08:A0:27:A7:B2:3E.
