Network Sonar: SNMP Network Discovery
SolarWinds Network Sonar uses an SNMP discovery engine to create a detailed discovery database of a high speed data network.
It is the fastest discovery engine in the industry for complex, multi-vendor networks. Multiple Class C’s can be scanned in a matter of minutes. Network Sonar comes with several default reports and graphs to visually display an inventory. Network Sonar has been benchmarked on and was able to discover a network of over 500,000 devices on over 3,000 subnets in just under 4 hours.
Network Sonar can build a Microsoft Access Database of all data elements while it performs the discovery – even devices that do not support SNMP. It uses DNS, ICMP and SNMP to discover:

- • Type, location, software, releases, etc
- • Interfaces
- • DNS
- • IP Address on each interface
- • Interface speed
- • MAC Address
With serveral different reports preloaded with Network Sonar, inventory graphs can easily be generated.
