A common need for a network engineer is to quickly scan a range of IP addresses to determine what devices are responding. The SolarWinds Ping Sweep provides the ability to scan either a single class C or across an entire range of IP Addresses. In addition to displaying IP addresses are in use (or not in use) the Ping Sweep application also displays the reverse DNS lookup for each address
Quickly Scans a Range of IP Addresses
The Ping Sweep application scans either Responding or Non-Responding IP Addresses. This feature is very handy in determining which IP Addresses are in use. The application custom setting lets the user adjust the delay between pings as well as the TTL (Time to Live).
Exporting
An important feature of the SolarWinds Ping Sweep is its ability to export or print the results to any of the following:
• Comma Delimited file (CSV)
• Plain Text file (TXT)
• HTML
• Excel Spreadsheet
• or Copy directly to the Clipboard
Ping Sweep is integrated into the other great tools and applications in the SolarWinds Engineers Toolset. If you “right click” on any scanned device within the results table you can immediately either Telnet to the device or launch SolarWinds IP Network Browser application.

Ping Sweep even lets you take the analysis one step further. If you ‘right’ click on any device within the results table you can 1) PING it individually, 2) Telnet to it or 3) launch SolarWinds IP Network Browser.
